Length of Course: 2 hours Method of Presentation: PowerPoint presentation, lecture, handouts, and discussion of case studies. Course Description: “Green” homes tend to be highly energy efficient and nearly airtight. They often have unusual systems for conservation and reclamation of water and other resources, advanced energy management and HVAC equipment, and other non-standard design and construction features. As with any new technology, quirks and outright failures are more common in these houses, and home inspectors must have a basic understanding of the technologies in order to recognize the defects. This course will provide an overview of the major residential “Green” building standards currently in use, with focus on the newly released ICC-700 National Green Building Standard, which was jointly developed by ICC and NAHB, and approved as an ANSI Standard. We will focus on the portions of these standards that address the physical structure and systems most pertinent to home inspection. The course will also address the roles that home inspectors can play as verifiers of construction quality under these standards, and issues and features that are unique to these homes which are of interest to inspectors during the normal course of their work. Course Description: New Electrical Devices for Homes Sponsored by: Garden State Chapter of ASHI Course Presenter: Ernest J Borsellino, NJ Licensed Electrician, and NJ Licensed Home Inspector. Length of Course: 2 hours Method of Presentation: Lecture, handouts, and discussion. New electrical devices, such as tamper proof receptacles, AFCI and GFCI devices, etc. will be discussed as to where they are required. Requirement for special situations such as sump pumps, jetted tubs, damp areas, and other unique or unusual electrical requirements will also be discussed. |
